The final day of the men’s transfer window is here, but there is still time for some rumourmongering, before a Supermarket Sweep-style trolley dash for 11th-hour signings.
Going wild in the aisles? Manchester United’s interest in a new left-back has been known all summer long, yet here they stand without one on the final day of the window. While many are claiming United’s business could be done, RB Leipzig’s David Raum, Fulham stalwart Antonee Robinson and Fenerbahce’s English left-back Archie Brown have all been mentioned as possible last-minute acquisitions. Jorge Salinas of Racing Santander has been tracked by United throughout the window and some are reporting that deal could be done today for €16m (£13.7m). Burnley are keen on United’s own youngster Harry Amass, but his departure may depend on a left-back coming in.
Speaking of United, remember Jadon Sancho? Well, the one-time £74m Old Trafford signing is still a free agent after his contract expired, with his former club Borussia Dortmund ready to take a chance on him providing he signs a heavily incentivised contract.
United and Liverpool are also credited with an interest in Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi, though they may not have much time to press on with the transfer. Arsenal have also glanced admiringly in the direction of 20-year-old Frenchman, who is one of the jewels in the Cherries’ crown.
It appears Liverpool knocked back an audacious approach by Nottingham Forest for their young midfielder Trey Nyoni. The 19-year-old is rated highly by Andoni Iraola, and not even a £30m Forest bid tempted the Reds to sell.
Which midfielder will Chelsea sign if and when Manchester City’s pursuit of Enzo Fernández finally bears fruit? Alex Scott, Lamine Camara and Manu Koné have all been identified as targets for the Blues, but only one of those deals can feasibly be achieved on deadline day. Alternatively, is Eduardo Camavinga still attainable for Chelsea or someone else? Noises are coming out of Madrid suggesting Real could listen to offers of around £60m today.
Let’s move on to Everton, who look to have missed out on Richarlison and Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling but should be able to bring Jack Grealish back on loan, as well as Kenny Tete from Fulham. Tim Iroegbunam is off to Hull and Iliman Ndiaye looks destined for Manchester City after their deal for Cody Gakpo hit the rocks.
The Championship is often where the juiciest deadline-day activity takes place, and Derby are battling Blackburn to re-sign Brighton defender Eiran Cashin on loan. Meanwhile, Wrexham, who were accused by Sheffield United’s Chris Wilder of “blanket bombing” in their bid to sign his player Callum O’Hare, are also considering Portsmouth’s Adrian Segecic and Bristol City’s Scott Twine, while an eye-catching free transfer for Jamie Vardy remains a possibility.
