Lewis Hamilton ‘to make three new films’ but Verstappen snubs F1 screening

Lewis Hamilton has revealed his film production company is working with screenwriters to write and produce three films in the future. The seven-time world champion was speaking after a private screening of the forthcoming film F1: The Movie, held on Wednesday night in Monte Carlo, on which he was a producer and an adviser.

At the beginning you see all the different logos for the different production houses and my one comes out, which I worked on for so long, which is Dawn Apollo and it was just amazing to see that,” he said. “This has gone in very high. Couldn’t go any higher for my first movie but we will be producing more movies in the coming years. I’ve got three concepts that I’m writing. But I’m going to write with a writer.

“I’ve got these concepts, at least two of them will be animations and one of them we’re in the phase of the first part of a script already, so it’s exciting. Then there will be documentaries, there will be TV series at some stage, but mostly movies. I love movies.”

In Monaco before this weekend’s grand prix, Hamilton also admitted he had been concerned about the reaction of his fellow drivers when they were shown the film for the first time at the private screening.

Yesterday all the drivers are there. I sat in the middle and I was nervous. Everyone is seeing it for the first time,” he said. “It was great to look around and see some of the reactions. Particularly the drivers, you know. I really care what the drivers think and I wanted them to think highly of it.

“I mentioned to them afterwards, you know I welcome your honest opinions about it. The great thing is the sound is great, the image is incredible. It’s something that’s never been done before. So it’s something I’m really proud of.”

Max Verstappen, however, continued to observe his singular approach to Formula One and opted against attending the private screening. It is understood that attendance was mandatory but, because it was during the drivers’ free time not over what constitutes a race weekend, they could not be forced to attend. All the drivers apart from Verstappen and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll did go to the screening. Verstappen said he informed F1 in advance he wanted time with his family.

“I just wanted to spend more time at home,” said Verstappen, who has just had a baby with his partner, Kelly Piquet. “It was just my private time and I prefer to spend that private time at home, especially because in Formula One you’re away from home so much already.

“Wanting to spend more time at home on days like that is pretty normal. Now that the family is growing, then I definitely prefer to spend more time at home.”
