Marilyn Manson: Unmasked
10pm, Channel 4
In the 90s, Brian Warner gained a cult-like fanbase as he transformed into rock artist Marilyn Manson – a provocative “antichrist superstar”. In 2021, his ex-girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood accused him of sexual abuse, and more women have since made similar claims (Manson has strongly denied engaging in any nonconsensual sexual acts.) Wood and some of those women speak out in this brilliant, disturbing three-part documentary series, along with Manson’s current lawyer and former fans, friends and band members. “Marilyn Manson is about transcending morality and sexuality; no boundaries, grey area,” he says of himself in a particularly chilling video. Digging for Britain
8pm, BBC Two
Prof Alice Roberts is on the hunt in northern England. Gold is found in the grounds of a bishop’s palace in County Durham, there’s evidence of an ancient crime (punishable by crucifixion!) in Yorkshire, and an “unbelievable” bronze- age haul is discovered in Cumbria. HR
Eat Smart: Secrets of the Glucose Goddess
8pm, Channel 4
Sucre bleu! French biochemist and social media health influencer Jessie Inchauspé tasks another trio of UK volunteers to follow a six-week programme of health hacks designed to help smooth out the “glucose rollercoaster”. Most of it seems like common sense, but the upbeat Inchauspé has motivational energy to burn. Graeme Virtue
Manhunt
9pm, Channel 4
A potential kidnapping that was witnessed by a concerned citizen in Wigan is the first focus of this new true-crime series. When Christopher Hughes is seemingly forced into a car, the police piece together fragments of CCTV footage and, eventually, pursue Hughes’s captors across the city as they attempt to bring him home alive. Phil Harrison
Ben Fogle: New Lives in the Wild
9pm, Channel 5
Right on time for the new year, another round of extreme life choices to ponder (and possibly act upon). This week, Fogle is in the forests of New South Wales, Australia, meeting American photographer and widower Jimmy, who only has his dogs for company following the death of his husband, Richard. Poignant and inspiring. Ali Catterall
From
9pm, Sky Max
This seriously trippy sci-fi-horror series has rightly been described as “landlocked Lost” – not surprising, as they share director Jack Bender and star Harold Perrineau. It’s now in its third series, unravelling the mystery of a horror-filled small town that traps anyone who visits – with one heck of a season finale cliffhanger to pick up from. HR
Film choice
A League of Their Own, 5.50pm, Sky Cinema Greats
Top marks in the Bechdel test for Penny Marshall’s 1992 period drama. It tells the tale of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, set up during the second world war while the men were away fighting. Geena Davis stars as farming wife/catcher Dottie, who, with younger sister/pitcher Kit, joins the nascent setup and rises above the prevalent sexism to make the sport a thrilling spectacle. With Tom Hanks as a grumpy coach and Madonna being Madonna as a flirty fellow player, it’s more enjoyable – and occupies less time – than the game itself. Simon Wardell
