The 1,000 Mile Club is a running group inside San Quentin state prison, California, in which inmates serving life sentences are coached by a group of volunteer elite athletes to run an annual marathon within the facility’s walls. This powerful film follows the men training in the grounds (“The yard is the only place you can wear clothes that don’t say ‘prisoner’”) and examines the transformative power of the club. As this bold, theatrical biopic series from the director Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice, Atonement) continues, Mussolini’s Il Popolo d’Italia newspaper becomes the mouthpiece of the rising fascist movement. But betrayal and backstabbing are equally powerful tools, and Mussolini (Luca Marinelli) is prepared to step on anyone for power. Hannah J Davies

Top Guns: Inside the RAF

The second season of this series offering strictly controlled but intimate access to the inner workings of the RAF follows a Reaper spy drone which, although it’s on active service in Iraq, is being managed remotely from RAF Waddington. Meanwhile, in Cyprus, there’s an attack on a Royal Navy warship that has consequences much farther afield. Phil Harrison
