The best Black Friday console deals in the UK for gamers: PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2

2 days ago 11

Being a gaming fan has been expensive in 2025. Tariffs and other factors have seen price hikes from all of the big manufacturers – so you may be surprised to find that there are any Black Friday discounts at all.

Whether you’re after a PS5, Xbox or even the newer Nintendo Switch 2, there’s been a number of price reductions across the board. Some deals have already been and gone, but there’s still a chance to get a discount no matter which console you are after this Christmas – and we’ve rounded up our favourites on consoles, controllers and other accessories below.

How is the Filter covering Black Friday?

At the Filter, we believe in buying sustainably, and the excessive consumerism encouraged by Black Friday doesn’t sit easily with us. However, we also believe in shopping smarter, and there’s no denying that it’s often the best time of year to buy big-ticket items that you genuinely need and have planned to buy in advance, or stock up on regular buys such as skincare and cleaning products.

Retailers often push offers that are not as good as they seem, with the intention of clearing out old stock, so we only recommend genuine deals. We assess the price history of every product where it’s available, and we won’t feature anything unless it is genuinely lower than its average price – and we will always specify this in our articles.

We only recommend deals on products that we’ve tested or have been recommended by product experts. What we choose to feature is based on the best products at the best prices chosen by our editorially independent team, free of commercial influence.

Xbox vs PlayStation

Choosing which console to buy is a big decision, and the traditional battle lines between Sony and Microsoft have become more blurred. It’s historically been based on game exclusivity – if you want Forza, go Xbox, or if you want Gran Turismo, go PlayStation. However, this year Microsoft has been launching Xbox-exclusive games on the PS5 too, and Sony has also ported a few PlayStation exclusives onto Xbox.

Both the Xbox Series X and PS5 will play games at up to 4K/120Hz (which you may need a new TV to take full advantage of) and are very powerful boxes for the price. There are obviously some differences between them – design, games and operating system aside, the Series X comes with a disc drive, whereas you have to pay extra for it on the PS5. For something cheaper, the Xbox Series S is a less powerful, digital-only console. And if you’re after more power, there’s the newer PS5 Pro model.
